Weather Update

Highlands remains without power and cell service.  Please be patient if you are trying to reach someone in the area.  I am only able to post this because I am sitting in the Highlands Fire Department.  Power may be restored by Monday or Tuesday- best case scenario.  The storm dumped 20" of rain on Highlands accompanied by 60 mph wind gusts.  The golf course did not fare to well, with numerous trees lost.  Our team is working overtime this weekend to do our best to get the golf course cleaned up.  Right now, the best case scenario, is to reopen the golf course and practice facility on Tuesday.  The most prominent tree lost is the huge Oak Tree next to #7 green.  Fortunately, it fell towards the fairway and not over the green!  We lost a have dozen trees- a couple 36" diameter white oaks on #14 next to the tees.  Several other holes also had fallen trees and some creek and pond banks received a lot of damage.  As for getting to Highlands, the only roads open to Highlands are NC 28 from Walhalla and Buck Creek Road.  All other roads remain closed and will stay closed for a while until costly repairs can be made.  Tomorrow afternoon, I will make another post with any updates I learn of.  Your patience is appreciated!
