Bryson Grading was kind enough to allow us to borrow their hydroseeder today to touch up a variety of areas on the golf course like creek banks and pond banks. Hyroseeding is the process where seed is placed in a 500 gallon water tank (in this case) along with a product called 'hydromulch' and then is sprayed on the ground rather than simply broadcasting seed by hand. The benefit of it is that the slurry sticks to steep banks and the hydromulch retains water, resulting in a faster germination as well as a higher germination percentage of the seed. The hydromulch contains ingredients like recycled paper and other biodegradable fibers that bind the seed to the bank it is being sprayed on. The most important area we are seeding is our dump area at the back of the practice facility. We recently did some extensive grading to the area and created a large mound to screen the view from the practice tee. Not only does grassing this help hide the area from view, but it stabilizes the soil so we don't have any erosion during rain events. We are seeding a blend of fine fescues in these areas. Hydroseeding is a common method of seeding roadsides and other areas that are disturbed by the DOT during road projects. The slurry has a blue tint to it the lasts for a few days until the seed begins to germinate. It is 100% safe for animals and pets.
