Today, we are spraying fairways with 2 fungicides, a growth regulator, a fertilizer and an insecticide for preventative white grub control. June 1 is the estimated time to apply an insecticide for grubs. Adult Japanese beetles will begin to lay eggs this month. If chemical control is not in place, the eggs will hatch resulting in a grub problem come mid August. Grubs feed on the roots of turf. the plants will either wilt and die or raccoons, skunks or even bears will begin tearing up the turf looking for food. Again, June 1-15 is the window for white grub control applications in the mountains.
