Hemlocks
Protecting our strategically located trees is a priority at HCC. This Hemlock behind the 12th green is an example of a very important tree on the course. Today I deep root fed the tree in addition to treating for the wholly adelgid. You may notice some or most Hemlocks with yellow tips in the branches. Do not be alarmed. It is the time of year when Hemlocks begin to shed their needles.
In order to fertilize these trees, we drill 8" deep holes randomly along the base of the tree out to the dripline. Using a funnel, we fill the holes with a 13-2-13 fertilizer. Insecticed treatments are done via soil injection. Soil injections are 20% more effective than trunk injections.
