Trout Fishing

This time every year, if you are a fisherman, you may wonder why you aren't catching as many fish in our lakes and ponds. It is true, our fish population becomes depleted this time of year. However, water temperature will impact your success for catching fish. The colder the water, the more dissolved oxygen it contains. Furthermore, Rainbow Trout will feed between 55-65 degrees. If it is colder or warmer, the fish become stressed, their metabolism slows and their requirement for food is greatly reduced. Our ponds are currently at 72 degrees! This explains why you won't catch many trout. However, once the water temperature cools, feeding will actively pick up. No worries, but please be patient. Stocking more trout will also not increase your chances.
