Wednesday

With fall upon us, we are planning on winter projects and gearing up for a change in priorities.  That said, you will see some paint here and there where we are taking measurements for various projects.  Holes 1, 2, 3, 5, and 12 are going to get irrigation additions after this summer's battle with drought.

Below, I am experimenting, and I stress experimenting, with different products as a less obtrusive cart path boundary to keep carts on paths in areas that get warn.  So far, I've not discovered anything that works.  Please remember that in order to move forward, we need to continually try new things.  All too often, members are so quick to criticize.  In baseball, a batter who gets a hit in 3/10 at bats is considered an all-star (that's a 30% success rate or a 70% failure rate)!  If 3/10 ideas my team comes up with work, I'm happy.  The other 7/10- well, we can never say we didn't try!  Those who never fail live in their comfort zone.  That is why I embrace failing daily.  It makes the successes that much better!  In a somewhat different, but similar note, there is a saying in this business about great superintendents- 'There are those who killed grass and those who are going to kill grass.'  Any super that hasn't, is living a lie or not pushing the limits.  I like life in the fast lane.  The next time you see us experimenting with something, sit back knowing we are trying a certain project or process because it either has potential to be advantageous to the club or, one of your fellow members suggested it.  It doesn't mean it's a fact or set in stone.  Keeping 450 people content isn't for the weak of heart.  Suggestions come from all directions and its up to us to filter those ideas.
