This afternoon, 1,900 trout were added to Club Lake and the other ponds on the golf course. As I've talked about before, we started doing all our stocking in the winter because it's much less stressful on the trout, who prefer cold water over warmer temps. Trout are fish that prefer cold, oxygenated running water found in streams and rivers. However, they survive in lakes provided the water temperatures don't get too high. As water temperature increases, dissolved oxygen decreases. This is why, in July and August, you see the fish gathered at the mouth of our ponds. Our water temperature can exceed 73*F, which is approaching a lethal range for trout, who thrive in water that is 50-65*F. This summer, you'll see a healthy population of Brook, Brown and Rainbow Trout, a few Golden Trout in addition to our growing Largemouth Bass population!
