If seeing a putting green covered in pinestraw wasn’t odd enough, this morning we covered the green with 6mm black plastic. The hope is that during the day, we can generate enough heat below the plastic that will prevent the green from freezing. Tomorrow, late morning, the sod is scheduled to be removed from the green and we won’t be able to do that if the ground is frozen. This is definitely not something I would try for longer than 1 day. If left on too long, this could have negative consequences for the turf.
