We have some cold temperatures coming in to Highlands tomorrow. Due to these temperatures, play will be delayed until 11:30AM on Friday-Sunday. The practice facility will open at 11:00AM on all days. Of course, the Club is closed on Thursday so employees can spend Thanksgiving Day with family and friends.
For the next 5 days, the 12th hole will be closed and golfers are asked to skip it. On Monday, we start the project to rebuild this green. The first step in that process is to remove the sod from the green. In order to do this, the green cannot be frozen. If it were to freeze, we will have to delay the start of the project as much as one or two weeks. Given the tight schedule we have and Architect flights already booked, we can't afford for that to occur. Therefore, Wednesday morning, we covered the 12th green with 18" of pinestraw to insulate it by holding the higher ground temperatures close to the surface. On Sunday, we'll also be covering the green with 6mm black plastic sheeting. I'm confident that doing this will prevent the 12th green from freezing and we'll be able to start the project as planned on Monday morning, December 2nd. We appreciate your patience and know the 12th green will have a new challenging, but fair, look to it the next time you see it!
