Nursery Update

Hap is pleased with today's delivery of Penn A1/A4 Bentgrass sod.  The sod was ordered "washed," which means the soil the grass was grown on, was pressure washed off the roots.  This allows us to lay the sod on a sand based rootzone, without putting a soil layer down that would impede water movement.  The roots are in contact with sand from day one.  The down side of washed sod, is that it requires irrigation multiple times a day.  Soil is what holds on to moisture, making it available to the grass.

With the sod installed, we'll have the next 2-plus months (prior to winter) to work the height down and also to aggressively aerate the turf to incorporate more sand.  This winter, the sod will be ready to be installed on the 12th and 14th greens when they are completed.
