Monday

On the 17th green, the new front right extension of the green was aerified using 1/4" hollow tines.  By performing this, we are encouraging growth and softening the "tie-in"- the line that the new part of the green ties onto the old part of the green.  After hollow-tining, the green was rolled in 2 directions.  We will more than likely do this one more time in a couple weeks.

Today also marked the first sand topdressing of greens and approaches of the season.  From now until November, we'll be topdressing every 14 days.  The main reason this is done is to dilute the organic matter that the turf on the greens naturally accumulates below the surface.  Getting sand into that material keeps the greens firm and smooth.
