Last week, all of the turf growing on our putting green nursery at the back of the practice facility was removed from it's USGA spec rootzone. Later this week, we are expecting another load of sand (80/20 mix which is 80% sand and 20% peat-the same sand mix the golf course greens are built on) to re-level the nursery and prepare it for seeding. We'll be seeding Penn A4 creeping bentgrass on the nursery, which is what the golf course greens were seeded with in 1999. In the next year or two, there is a chance of a couple greens being reworked (possibly #12 and #14) and most likely, the size of said greens will expand. If the Green Committee elects to do that work, I want to have turf available to sod those expansions so it matches what we have on the golf course and is maintained at the same level of intensity so there is no downtime when the golf course opens that spring. This will ensure the turf is exactly the way we want it when we are ready for it. Our nursery is exactly 5,000ft2 in size, which is about the average size of one green on your golf course.
