Tuesday

It's a misty/rainy day in Highlands and 37*F which feels very warm compared to the past week!  Sod is being installed around all of the new forward tees.  It's a great time to get this sod down to eliminate the change of erosion since rain predicted the next few days.  You'll notice that some of the tees are square and others are round.  Ron Forse designed the tees with that look in mind.  The eye is drawn to straight lines.  By having circular shaped forward tees, they become less noticeable when standing on the tees behind them.  A circular tee also makes better use of a limited amount of land compared to a rectangular tee.  Here are a few examples of the new forward tees on the golf course.

The new forward tee on the 1st hole.

The new forward tee on the 3rd hole.

The new forward tee on the 11th hole.

Above, Hap is standing in front of the work that's been done below the 13th green.  This is a project that we've gone back and forth on, with our golf course architect, Ron Forse.  When the lower area was initially cleared of vegetation, the slope was far steeper than originally thought.  This led to the need to alter the plan.  Also, the wetland area that was exposed at the bottom of the hill was exacerbated when the large dead Hemlock stumps were dug and removed.  Once our contractor installs sod on this bank this week, our team is going to get down in there and significantly clean out the opposite side of the wetland.  I think there is a tremendous opportunity to really beatify this area on the 13th hole.

Wayne and Tim are using their construction talents by making the new 6"x6" posts that will go on the bridge.  I'm proud of this team and our ability to be able to tackle all of these projects in-house.  We have a diverse group of guys and between all of us, we know enough to be very dangerous!
