Tuesday

This week, Monday through Wednesday, Assistant Superintendent, Chad Stockton, Spray Technician, Billy Brooks and I are in Myrtle Beach, SC for the annual Carolinas Golf Course Superintendents Association's (CGCSA) educational conference and show.  This conference offers numerous great continuing educational opportunities that allow me to maintain various certifications I have in addition to giving Chad and Billy the opportunity to earn NC state pesticide credits required to keep up their NC Pesticide Applicator's License.  No only that, but it is an excellent networking opportunity for us to talk to other industry professionals.  From all of us, I can't thank the Highlands CC membership for supporting staff by allowing us to attend these types of events.  The return on the investment for Highlands CC is great and well worth the time away.

At the same time, our Equipment Technician team of Matthew and Darren, are attending their conference at Horry-Georgetown Technical College, just down the road.  TETAC (Turfgrass Equipment Technicians Association of the Carolinas) has a similar program, although much smaller, during the same time as our event.  This event is crucial as equipment evolves and becomes much more technical and computerized in nature.  These two gentlemen get a lot out of this annual event.

Back at the Club, work doesn't stop!  We are spending the week cleaning leaves from all the creeks on the golf course.  After this week, the leave cleanup effort should be finished.  That's a HUGE project each year.  Below, Lyn and company are creating a stone paver patio next to the cart staging area.  Grass never does well in this area because of shade, tree root competition and carts often being parked on the grass.  Rather than continuing our unsuccessful effort of trying to grow grass here, we are doing something different that will be more attractive and useful.
