It’s been a great week with lots of progress despite the cold weather. It’s worth noting that all of the projects we are working on come at the recommendation of our golf course architect. The projects are then vetted by the Green Committee.
Fairway aeration continues and we are just about finished the front nine holes. Friday has a good chance of rain which may slow us down.
On the 11th hole, we aggressively cut back the vegetation growing within 15 feet of the creek. It is pretty spectacular now, because from the tee, you are looking down the creek. Now the the vegetation is cut and chipped, we'll soon be getting equipment over there to get rid of stumps and roots. Ultimately, this area will be grassed.
On the 8th hole, we are working behind the green to make the area more attractive. The ugly gravel path intersected with the asphalt path behind #8 green. It was unsightly because we couldn't contain the gravel, causing the path to keep growing wider. To solve this, we are rerouting the gravel path farther back through the rhododendron. This means you'll no longer be looking down that gravel road on your second shot from the top of the hill. The area that used to be gravel path will be raised with soil, shaped and then sodded with grass.
Above, the yellow arrow in this photo shows the location of the old gravel road.
Above, the yellow arrow in this photo shows the approximate location of the re-routed gravel maintenance path. Below, if you are still confused with the area I am referring to, I found an old photo of the 8th green complex. The yellow arrow in the photo below points to the gravel path I am referencing.
Finally, the one tee on the 10th hole is ready to be sodded. It's a more attractive, simpler look.
