Highlands CC's own dog of turf, Happoldt Stiehler, claimed the runner up, $100 cash prize at this year's Carolinas Golf Course Superintendents Association (CGCSA) Conference and Show. A month before the show, Superintendents were asked to submit a photo of their golf course dog, which were then placed on a wall for everyone to see. Attendees at the trade show were asked to vote on their favorite dog photo. In the end, Hap won 2nd place. Along with the $100, he also had his photo mounted on a canvas frame.
When asked about it, Hap said, "Ya know, I gotta say the competition had to be rigged! There is no way the stud in the photo above should have finished second to a Pug! A Pug, for crying out loud! Who even has a Pug golf course dog? I'm trying to be a good sport about it, but it's tough. I am really happy about my $100 even though I don't have any pockets to keep it in. Dad took me to PetSmart, where I blew it all on tennis balls and rawhide treats." Hap then asked, "Is it Pets Mart or Pet Smart?" before running off after a squirrel.
