Here is an interesting fact I recently heard in a class, that falls into the category of somewhat useless trivia.
An acre of forest sequesters (on average), 5 tons of carbon dioxide over the course of a year. This is enough to offset the carbon emissions of a vehicle that is driven 26,000 miles.
Research shows that one acre of Creeping Bentgrass maintained at fairway height (about 1/2" height of cut), sequesters one ton of carbon dioxide per year. Highlands CC is comprised of approximately 25 acres of fairways out of a total of 85 acres of maintained turf. That means that our fairways alone, sequester 25 tons of CO2 each year. This is enough to offset the carbon dioxide of a vehicle that is driven 130,000 miles.
