Today we sand topdressed greens and approaches. At Highlands CC, this is done every other Monday or every 14 days. Adding sand to the surface is critical to keep up with the organic matter development below the surface. It also speeds up the greens for a day or two and helps keep the surface smooth and firm. Without regular topdressing, the greens would become soft, wet and spongy...everything you don't want out of a putting green.
