At any country club, the Men's and Ladies Member/Guest Tournaments are the two biggest events each season. At Highlands CC, we treat every day as if those tournaments are tomorrow. This only difference is, we want to have all of our detailed maintenance peak for those three days. This means adjusting the timing on our maintenance practices and that is a major team effort. We want all the weed-eating, fly-mowing, irrigation head edging etc complete at the same time. This essentially involves completing 7 days of work, compressing it into 3 or 4 days.
On the days of the event, the staff gets to work early, specifically 4:30am. We will double cut and roll greens, mow tees and collars, mow rough, rake bunkers, perform course setup (pins and tee markers) and mow the intermediate rough all before 9:00am. Our talented mechanics remain on standby in case of equipment issues, they can get us back up and going immediately. Our practice facility staff will have their area ready to go by 7:30am.
Once 9:00am comes, we are off the course until play is over for the day. This is a great time to catch up on projects off the golf course. There are always jobs to do around the campus that aren't on the golf course. Things like cutting back vegetation on Hummingbird Lane or treating hemlocks off the golf course are examples of tasks done when the course is full.
Once golf is over for the day, we go back out and start preparing the golf course for the next day. In the evening, we will mow fairways, approaches, more rough, and fill divots created from the morning play. In total, the staff works 14-15 hour days to have the golf course ready for you and your guest! These are the events we live for... We want you to be as proud of the golf course as we are!
Edging yardage stones and irrigation heads is one of the details we do every other week but we time all of these practices to be done at the same time for M/G Tournaments.
