Soap flushes for Annual Bluegrass Weevil (ABW) continues. Monitoring for this destructive insect is very important and fortunately we are only seeing very small numbers of them. Lemon Joy soap is mixed with water and poured over a one square foot area. This combination will cause adults to surface, where the population can be counted. According to NC State University, 15 adults/ft2 is the threshold that warrants treatment. Believe it or not, in the North East, where this is a much bigger issue, it's not uncommon to count over 100 adults from an a square foot area. I'm told there is a course in New Jersey that spends $70,000 a year on ABW control alone!!
Below, while I am counting "bugs," it gives me a chance to admire how sharp Paul and Kevin have the fairway mowing reels! Our fairways look great!
