Lime Truck

Howard Fertilizer is on site today with their spread truck to make an application of dolomitic limestone wall to wall on the golf course.  Check back later for more pictures of the truck in action!  The "balloon" tires on the truck allow it to go anywhere without leaving tracks.  This is a brand new truck and the first time it's been used.  The lime is applied at a rate of 1 ton of lime per acre.  The need for lime is determined from our annual soil testing and the pH results of the soil.  Acidic soils (those with a pH of 6.5 or lower) benefit from lime.  The lime raises the soil pH and makes nutrients available to the grass that wouldn't be at low pH values.  At HCC, this is something we do about once every 4-5 years.
