There is nothing clean about removing sediment from a pond. In Highlands, we get a lot of rain on steep slopes which means water moves fast downhill. While construction can certainly exacerbate the issue, sedimentation is a natural process in the mountains. Ponds sound nice to most people until you are responsible for their maintenance; they then become a money pit. A pond continuously wants to revert back to a creek or stream. If you have a stream on your property and think a pond would be nice, I would urge you to reconsider. If you have a pond, be sure to build it to where it can be accessed by heavy equipment so dredging is practical when needed.
