Suds and Bugs

We continue to do soap flushes on a number of fairways scouting for adult Annual Bluegrass Weevil.  This insect can cause a lot of damage to turf.  The unpredictable weather this spring has made it very difficult to predict their activity like we have in years past.  Once I start seeing adults, we can formulate a game plan in regards to treating the turf with insecticides.  Those applications are not made by guessing.  The soapy water (Dawn dish detergent) irritates their skin causing them to surface, where I can physically count the populations in a given area.
