Camden CC

This past Sunday and Monday, Camden CC (Camden SC, about 30 miles East of Columbia, SC) hosted a Carolinas GCSA meeting.  This is a really neat golf course with fascinating history.  The original course was designed by Walter Travis and redone years later by Donald Ross.  In fact, it is the only 18 hole golf course in the State of SC designed by Ross.  Why he didn't do more work in SC is a mystery.  Consider travel in the early 1900's, South Carolina was far more accessible compared to many parts of North Carolina.

This old Walter Travis green that was moved by Ross is now overgrown with trees.  The Club marks the old green location with a flag and signage seen below.

Above, the 14th and 15th holes are separated by a train track.  This creates an interesting marking scenario (it is played as OB)!  This rail is still operational with 2 Amtrak trains running daily as well as several CSX corporation trains running daily.
