White Pine behind #4 green

The green committee elected to remove the lone white pine behind the 4th green this winter.  The tree was in decline and leaning towards the homes on the opposite side of the road.  It was a smart decision to remove this tree.  You can see how rotten the inside of the tree was!  As I like to do, I counted the rings on the stump to determine the age of the tree.  It falls somewhere in the 92-95 years old range.  This means the tree was probably planted (many of the old White Pines were in fact planted) around 1925.  That's pretty interesting to think about!  I wonder who was responsible for those decisions in the early Highlands CC days?
