We are planting a dozen 7 foot Hemlock trees on the opposite side of #17 creek. This area has been a challenge over the last 10 years. The water that backed up in this area has led to a severe decline of much of the native trees and shrubs growing there. We've had to cut back dead areas which left a void here and there. Hemlocks and River Birch are two species that don't mind a wet root zone and are better suited for this environment. While the trees are small, we needed to plant something we could handle manually. In this spot, it isn't possible to get heavy equipment down the bank and across the creek. Carrying the trees to the site is all done manually. Once these are planted, we move onto #15, where we have ten, four foot tall Mountain Laurel that will be used to fill in more on the bank above the 15th green.
