The new practice facility if going to be an incredible addition to the amenities at Highlands CC. In the back of the property, we are leveling an area to be used as a short chipping tee, allowing you to hit 20 yard to 60 yard pitch shots to the back two target greens. These greens were designed to be visible from both the front and rear teeing areas.
In addition to this small tee, there is an existing nursery that is being stripped of sod and going to be reseeded with four different varieties of creeping bentgrass. Each 1,250ft2 plot will have a newer variety of bentgrass that we can use to determine which is best suited for our climate. While there are no plans in the works, if the membership ever decided to re-grass the greens, this is good information to know and evaluate on site. See the bottom photo that illustrates the varieties I selected. One plot will be Penn A4, the current grass on HCC greens that was seeded in April 1999. This will allow you to see a side by side comparison to evaluate characteristics like shoot density, color and the time it takes to heal from cultural practices (like aerification etc).
Finally, this nursery will also serve as another 5,000ft2 putting green that will have numerous flags and cups for you to putt to.
