#6 sump

On the 6th hole, a 7 foot deep submersible pump is relied upon to remove water from the fairway.  This fairway has always been a tremendous challenge because the elevation of the fairway is nearly the same at Lake Sequoyah, meaning there is a high water table underground.  In order to dry out this fairway, we had to effectively lower the water table.  Ever day, thanks to an underground network of seepage drainage, ground water fills the sump and is pumped out.  In fact, the pump kicks on every 1-2 minutes.  That is a lot of water!  When I toured the golf course this morning to be sure we didn't have any damage, I noticed a pond on top of the sump, indicating the pump wasn't working.  Sunday, so much water flowed through the creek that it over flowed the pond with some water getting near the electric panel.  This tripped the breaker.  Fortunately that is all it was.  In the past, we've had debris and even golf balls lodge their way into the pump or backflow prevention valve.

Below, this is the 2.5" pipe that water is discharged from after leaving the sump.  Again, this shows how much water is moving below the ground!
