2017 Virlina Cup Final



After 54 holes worth of golf, the Carolinas GCSA defeated the Virginia GCSA in the 2017 Virlina Cup Matches with a score of 9.5 to 6.5!

 

Below, O'Neil Crouch, Director of Agronomy at Old Town Club (Winston Salem, NC) accepts the Virlina Cup after the Carolinas GCSA victory.  On the right, Jeff Whitmire, CGCS from Williamsburg Golf Club (Williamsburg, VA) represents the Virginia GCSA.

 

This was a fun event and it was an honor to be able to host this at Highlands CC.  This was a win-win for all; Syngenta makes a tremendous investment in the form of a sponsorship.  The Club in turn, had a nice source of income during a slower time of the season.   Next year, the event returns to Virginia and the venue to be determined. 

Although I've said it before, I want to thank the Highlands CC membership for making their golf course available to my peers for this prestigious event.  This was a memorable event for all those involved.  I personally was very proud to be able to show off the course to my fellow Superintendents, who were blown away by all facets of the operation.  The best comment I received by several of the players was: "I can't believe how welcoming your members were when they saw us on the golf course.  In the 6 years I've been playing in this event, we've never received that kind of reception."  This is just one example of what make HCC so special!  Our greatest asset is you, the membership.
