This is a neighboring yard to the golf course and shows the severity of Armyworm damage. An Armyworm is the larval stage of a moth. The life cycle starts as an egg, then hatches to the larval stage (this is what is so damaging as the caterpillars feed on grass), then pupae and finally the adult moth. This is the identical stages of a butterfly. This is rare in Highlands and my guess is it came to town in the form of eggs in the neighbors new sod, show below. You can see the patchiness in the sod that indicates the same issues.
