#18 hedge

Chris did a great job pruning the hemlock hedge behind the 18th green.   If you recall, this hedge was replaced about 4 years ago and shifted 3 feet towards the green to get it off the road. This is an extreme environment for any tree or shrub. This was the first aggressive pruning they received.  Cutting the top of a tree like this destroys the tree's apical meristem. This could be good in the case of a hedge where you want the trees to "bush out." However, in the case of a single tree, this ruins the form of a tree.
