Monday

Above, we started today lowering the height of cut on the Jones tees on 2,3 and 17.  You recall these were sodded with zoysiagrass and overseeded with Perennial Ryegrass.

Below, is a close up of Kentucky bluegrass cut with a dull mower (taken at an undisclosed location not on HCC property).  You can see where the grass is "torn" rather than "cut."  While it may not seem like a big deal, it opens the plant up to a host of issues including fungus and insect damage.  Also, it can give the lawn a brown appearance from a distance.  Fortunately, under the leadership of Paul Dalton, this isn't ever an issue on the golf course.  He and his assistant, Kevin Earp, work tirelessly to sharpen our many mowers daily.  As a superintendent, I never fear any mower that is sent out because I know it's in fine working order.  These guys are the best in the business.
