Above, we started today lowering the height of cut on the Jones tees on 2,3 and 17. You recall these were sodded with zoysiagrass and overseeded with Perennial Ryegrass.
Below, is a close up of Kentucky bluegrass cut with a dull mower (taken at an undisclosed location not on HCC property). You can see where the grass is "torn" rather than "cut." While it may not seem like a big deal, it opens the plant up to a host of issues including fungus and insect damage. Also, it can give the lawn a brown appearance from a distance. Fortunately, under the leadership of Paul Dalton, this isn't ever an issue on the golf course. He and his assistant, Kevin Earp, work tirelessly to sharpen our many mowers daily. As a superintendent, I never fear any mower that is sent out because I know it's in fine working order. These guys are the best in the business.
