One of the advantages of being a superintendent is getting 4am wakeup calls because of an irrigation blowout. When I got to the Club, I saw the new water feature at the practice green. It was pretty enough that I contemplated leaving it be and making a creek bed out of river rock to cycle the water. (That was a joke)
When I checked the pumpstation, I saw we were pumping 205 gallons of water per minute. Our pumpstation has the ability to pump a maximum of 1,800 GPM. You can see by the final photo that the break was caused by a broken swing joint of a quick connect irrigation valve. All in all, it took about 20 minutes to repair...those are the kinds I like!
