Monday

This past weekend we noticed 2 trees that had broken limbs that snapped in recent weeks. Of course, this presents a safety hazard and we quickly moved to get them removed. This required a professional climber to get up in the tree and  remove them. Rickey used to called these, "widow makers."

Below, I am marking edges of fairways to be sure the mowers are hitting the exact edge of the fairway. In the golf course maintenance industry there is a phrase, "green creep," which is the unintended movement of playing surfaces that is caused by mowers and their operators over the period of years.  If this is not kept in check, it can affect the architects design intentions and impact the playability.  Think about the old greens at Highlands CC pre 1998.  Most were circular and similar in size.  However, if you study the Donald Ross drawings in the Clubhouse, you notice they are anything but. As a mower operator, we have the tendency to keep things in symmetrical shapes that make mowing turns and edges much easier.

We just concluded re-evaluating all of the yardage tags on fixed objects on the golf course. There are quite a few that need to be added and the ultimate goal is a 1"x3" yardage tag on every fixed object. This includes irrigation heads, drainage basins and irrigation boxes.
