Trees and Grass and Overseed

What's going on here?  Answer: The superintendent ran a trencher on the right side of that strip to root prune the tree roots.  The dark green turf is no longer competing with tree roots for nutrients.  Trees are devastating to turf because of shade and root competition.
 
 
Below, you can see why most golf courses in the south no longer overseed.  For one, there is an average expense in the $30,000 range and two, the transition.  This photo below tells the story!  This is the Bermuda in early May.  Why ryegrass is growing in and among the Bermuda, neither turf species has a competitive advantage.
