It looks like another week of warmer temperatures and a chance of thunderstorms Tues-Sat. Unfortunately, we need a good all day soaker rather than a 1/2 hour long thunderstorm that results in more runoff.
I was able to play 18 holes today with my father and daughter and really enjoyed the golf course. I am making an effort not to lose site too quickly on all the great work we did last winter. In this business is easy to keep looking forward without reflecting on the past, something I am really trying to do more often. One such improvement were the aproaches on 7 and 17 and both are clearly benefiting from the new drainage installations. Whether it's rain fall or irrigation, they are much firmer thanks to this drainage and continued aggressive cultural practices (aerification, topdressing, verticutting) during the off season. I think you will also agree that the greens continue to get firmer by the year. We continue to step up our game and get better every time you return in the spring. After all, that's the goal!
I would love the opportunity to travel back in time 10 years, 20 years and 30 years plus to see the golf course and how it has envolved and improved. Today, it's receiving more care and resources than any point throughout its life, thanks to the most dedicated and committed membership. Keep in mind, HCC was never built with the end product in mind. It has gone through 80+ years of good economic times, bad economic times, tree planting, trees growing, old drainage pipes rusting and collapsing and even a time in its history where there were no fairways, everything was rough height! We are forced to deal with infrastructure issues that pop up along the way that a new golf course doesn't have to. Now that, is really the fun part and I wouldn't trade it for the world!
