The USGA lost another fine agronomist

Green Section mourns Happ's loss

USGA Green Section agronomist Keith Happ passed away Oct. 28 in Columbus, Ohio surrounded by his family after a long illness.

A graduate of Ohio State University and a former golf course superintendent, Mr. Happ spent 22 years with the Green Section. He started his USGA career Jan. 4, 1993 working as an agronomist in the Mid-Atlantic Region alongside the later Stan Zontek and Bob Brame.

In April 2013 he was named director of the North Central Region and a year later became regional director of the Central Region after a realignment reduced the number of regions nationwide from eight to four.

Prior to joining the Green Section, Mr. Happ worked at many golf courses throughout northern Ohio, including the Double Eagle Club in Galena. He also was a head superintendent for eight years at Legend Lake Golf Club in Chardon.

He also was active with the Northern Ohio Superintendents Association and was a former member of the chapter's board of directors.

Arrangements are pending and we will pass along more information as it becomes available.
