Potential project and other good stuff...

In the early years of HCC, a tee was located on the opposite side of Hummingbird Lane on the 15th hole.  This is currently the Berg property.  The green committee recently discussed the potential of putting this tee back!  We hope this something that may even happen this winter.  There are power lines that ideally be moved, but not very realistic given the cost.  The don't get in the way of the tee shot but visually aren't appealing.  The only change needed would be the removal the blue spruce next to the proposed tee.  The area that was the tee is very evident...it is slightly mounded with a flat top. If it does go forward, this would be a very minor project with the only cost being the 200 square feet of sod. The tee will simply be leveled and sodded with no internal drainage. It would be recreated as a "monument" of sorts to a time long ago.  If a member wanted to try to hit from the tee for nostalgic reasons, they may but it will not be used on a daily or even weekly basis.

These photos show the tee and the tree from both directions.  When Bob Jones shot the course record, the yardage on #15 was from this very tee.  This is a great piece of history in your Club!  The top picture is from Ron Pritchard's (golf course architect) Master Plan, where he recommended rebuilding this tee!

On another note, earthworms are continuing to be a nuisance on a couple fairways with their castings.  I am out of Early Bird fertilizer, the organic fertilizer we've had  a lot of success with this year.  the tea seed oil in the fertilizer irritates the earthworms, causing them to look elsewhere for a home.  More is on order but it's a hot commodity in the industry and slow to ship.  Thank you for your patience!
