Each month, I receive a variety of golf industry magazines. This particular one, I sit on the editorial review committee of. Regardless, it seems many golf magazines are inundated with articles about golf participation being down. We hear stories about different tactics some golf courses are doing to increase usage like adding 'foot-golf' as a sport. Anything that brings in any kind of revenue is considered. It is one depressing story after another.
Yesterday, attending the Highlands CC annual meeting, the theme is entirely different. Dr. Davis gave a golf committee report that showed rounds are up this year by 8% (don't quote me- I think) and lessons are up 21% and the list goes on. In short, usage of the club is at a great level with nothing slowing us down! Ken and staff continue to do a superb job!
My point is simple. There isn't a day that goes by that we as a staff are grateful for the situation we have at Highlands CC. We are one of those rare ones, for sure. The rich history, culture and our greatest asset, the membership, continue to make this an incredible situation to be involved in. This staff is committed to having this golf course ready for play at all times, to maximize member usage. Everything from our aerification schedule to how we set up the golf course in the morning allows members the most use of the golf course. So, we think we are also a factor in increasing that usage by being the most golfer-friendly maintenance staff you will ever find. We will continue to be just that!
