#12 Drainage

 
This morning we started a rather good size drainage project in the rough on #12.  There are 2 things happening here.  One, there was a very shallow drain line installed 15+ years ago that was causing water to come to the surface.  Second, there are some major soil layering issues we are trying to resolve.  You can see in the very last picture where the blue colored pea gravel actually turned brown-red in color.  This is a clear sign of anaerobic conditions where minerals are being deposited where it can't break through different soils. Soil physics can be a painfully boring subject.  However, the most important lesson: A fine texture soil should never overlay a course textured soil.  Water will never break through that water table.
