Bermudagrass at HCC...

I like to post this every so often...an update on the Bermudagrass at HCC!  The pond bank behind the 18th green does in fact contain a large percentage of bermudagrass.  It survives in this location because this is a south facing slope in full sun.

Years ago, in the 1960's, the Southeast USGA Agronomist actually experimented with Bermudagrass plugs at HCC with no success.  In addition, in 2002, we resodded half of the driving range tee with Zoysiagrass, thinking it would be able to withstand more divots.  Of course it did, but was only green for 2 1/2 months!  In addition, members were forced to practice on turf that didn't match the rest of the golf course.  In late 2002, we sodded the tee back to 100% creeping bentgrass.

How the Bermuda ended up on the pond banks...I have no idea!  Maybe this was part of that USGA experiment??
