The benefit of sunlight

The impact of sunlight is evident on the 16th tees.  4 years ago, this tee complex was surrounded by trees.  Very little sunlight reached the turf.  Since the trees were removed, the turf improves each year.  One mistake often made by green committees and members in general is the assumption that turf will immediately improve once trees are removed.  However, it often takes a year, minimum, before a change is evident.  The reason is the plant needs that full year to build up substantial carbohydrate reserves.  Additionally, aerification practices done over time will allow the turf to dense up by giving the grass an ideal growing medium.
