We make an effort each year to increase the amount of aquatic plants we have in our ponds. It is a delicate balance because these same plants can become invasive. It is also difficult to establish because we are treating the ponds with aquatic herbicides at the same time to prevent algae growth.
We stick with the basics plants like Pickerelweed, different rushes and sedges and of course, water lilies. Used correctly, they certainly enhance the ponds.
