The CGCSA held their recent North-South Tournament at Myers Park CC in Charlotte. This event puts NC supers against SC Supers in a Ryder Cup style format. After 3, nine hole matches, I won the first two and lost the third. Not too bad!
Most courses growing bentgrass in the south use large fans. Fans do a great job of keeping good air movement; which not only keeps the surface dry (no dew) but allows the plant to effectively cool itself. This process is known as transpiration. The human body works the same way in the form of sweat. Think how much cooler it feels to sweat when there is a nice breeze compared to stagnant air. This is what fans are great for! Another example: the cold feeling you get stepping out of the shower is actually the sensation given by water evaporating off of your skin. This is why we "syringe" turf on hot afternoons.
