This morning, a representative from the Stihl Company, a manufacturer of commercial grade power tools like weed eaters, chainsaws and backpack blowers, came to Highlands CC to conduct a safety training course. Head Mechanic, Matthew Green, recently learned of this service (at the Turfgrass Equipment Technicians Association of the Carolinas- TETAC- meeting this past November) offered at no cost to the Club, and quickly took advantage of it. The bulk of the training involved the use of chainsaws. At Highlands CC. we take safety extremely serious and have an excellent safety record because of it. In fact, we’ve had zero accidents in the last 10 years. Today's safety meeting involved a couple hours in a classroom like setting as well as some hands on demonstrations.
Above: Chainsaw maintenance and was also discussed as well as a hands on cutting demonstration behind the maintenance building.
The Stihl representative is based out of Anderson, SC. In his career, we were only the 3rd country club to request his services. He spends a lot of his time safety training fire departments, municipal maintenance crews, church groups who specialize in post hurricane clean-up efforts and tree removal outfits. This was an excellent use of 4 hours this morning.
