Big day today! The weather isn’t exactly nice; it’s overcast but it’s not raining and we are making a productive day of it. The day started at 30F and reached 34F by lunchtime.
Michael is replacing a few irrigation heads on holes #15 and #12. With our irrigation system over 30 years old, our sprinkler heads are worn and tired. When issues arise, rather than replacing parts, we change out the entire head to a new Toro Infinity series sprinkler head.
The main focus today is greens aerification. We are using 3/8” tines this spring. We will not be running the Graden verticutter this spring, so you can expect the greens to be playable sooner rather than later this year.
In addition to aerification, Gary is working on Fairway topdressing. We have 300 tons of sand staged in the parking lot waiting to be applied to fairways.
Drainage work is well underway on #12. The main objective is to capture the groundwater coming off the hillside. While we are in there, we are exposing more of the rock on the hillside. Let me say, this is going to be attractive! The rock is about 30% larger than it was and has several different levels. Interestingly, we even saw evidence where blasting was done in 1928 to be able to hide more of the rock below ground.
You can see the 6" step down, where a new sand cap will be installed to keep the surface dry.
Rock work is continuing on the croquet walls. The lower wall is complete now that the capstone is installed. After speaking with the sod farm in New Jersey, sod will more than likely be installed early next week, weather permitting.
Above, there is no denying the range tee is green!
Below is a shot of the house razing above the farm. The contractor is down to removing the foundation.
