Blustery Cold Monday...

Today wasn't a great day to be outside.  High temperatures didn't reach 30 degrees and with the wind chill factor, it felt to be in single digits.  Despite the cold weather, our contractor laid a significant amount of cement block this weekend.  The lawn is looking sharp now that the definition is coming more into focus.  The rock walls are being curved, rather than abrupt, sharp 90 degree angles.  This was the desire of our landscape architect, Mary Palmer Dargan.  The block walls you are looking at, are going to receive one more course of cement block, followed by a rock veneer and capstone.  In the end, it will be about 25" tall.  From there, we'll measure 3 feet back and pour another footer, that will serve as support for another wall; 4 foot tall wall in this case.  This offset will be landscaped to break up the look of a massive 7-foot tall wall.

In these photos, any area that you don't see a block wall, indicates the area is essentially flush with the final grade of the lawn.  We did our best to successfully navigate the final grades using gradual slope as opposed to steps.  From this point on, the daily progress won't be as exciting because a majority of time will be consumed with stone masonry.  In a few weeks when that concludes, we'll pick up the pace again with regular gratifying photos!  Stay tuned!
