DryJect is well underway. The greens will be aerified 2 directions and approaches, 1 direction. This process does wonders to firm up the playing surfaces if done consistently and routinely like we have the last 15 years. More importantly, it dilutes the accumulated organic layer that has formed on these 23 year old USGA spec greens.
Above: This is a cross section of the soil profile. The white sand is all relatively new, within the last 2 years. The dark brown is the organic matter I talk about and the gray colored sand at the bottom is the original greens mix used during the 1998 greens rebuilding project. It's critical to keep the organic matter diluted with as much sand as possible. You can tell when that is not done when you play on greens where your foot sinks down with every step you take. A good superintendent can judge how much aerification is needed just by wearing the right kind of shoes and then taking ten steps on a putting green.
