The rhododendron hedge that buffers the clubhouse and practice green from Dillard Rd is a key piece of the campus landscape. The shrubs have become very leggy and even started to die back in areas. Today, we embarked on a rejuvenation project of aggressively pruning and thinning out the canopy to allow sunlight to penetrate it. This will allow the rhododendron to become more dense by stimulating new growth. Once the pruning is complete, we are going to remove all of the leaves below and spread hardwood mulch beneath. We want to protect this hedge for generations to come.
Below, #16 green has never seen sun this time of day because of a key tree blocking it (it was removed this past winter). We have several greens that don't know what to make of the bright thing in the sky because they never experienced it before. It's the equivalent of spending the first 20 years of your life locked in a basement and then one day, being pushed out the door!
This photo doesn't look like much now but in another week, it will! We are in the process of exposing the creek behind the 15th green. Most members probably never realized how beautiful this creek is because it's been hidden for so long. By next week, you'll be able to enjoy it daily!
