I finally purchased this book and worth reading. Tom Doak, who created controversy when he first wrote these, talks a lot about Highlands CC. Interestingly, he ranks HCC's 10th hole in his collection of the most 18 eclectic in golf. You'll see below, he talks about the value of the creek on #10, which is what I would think we'd all agree makes the hole. However, Donald Ross didn't want it there and talked about piping it in 1928. It was the cost in the end that prevented it from being piped underground.
